+# MDLE data licensing
+
+Policy adopted on 5 October 2026.
+
+Original Medical Doctor’s Last Exam questions, reference answers, reasoning,
+scoring rubrics and other project-authored annotations are licensed under
+Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), to the extent the
+project owns the necessary rights or has received a valid license grant from
+the contributor. The complete license is in [LICENSES/CC-BY-4.0.txt](LICENSES/CC-BY-4.0.txt).
+
+Article text, clinical images, figure excerpts and other third-party material
+are excluded from this grant. Their authors’ and publishers’ licenses continue
+to apply. An article citation, open-access label, contributor privacy checkbox,
+or AI-generated rewrite does not by itself establish permission to redistribute
+the source material. Preserve source attribution, the applicable license,
+license link, and any indication of changes for each item and image.
+
+Only material with verified reuse rights should be included in a public
+release. Material with unknown rights or terms incompatible with the intended
+release must be separately authorized, replaced or excluded. This policy does
+not certify that existing submissions or historical case-report releases have
+completed that review.
+
+Project-owned source code is licensed separately under the Apache License,
+Version 2.0; see [LICENSE](LICENSE). Third-party code and dependencies retain
+their existing licenses. Neither license grants rights to project trademarks
+or third-party patient privacy and personality rights.

+The Hugging Face community organization is

+Its creation does not change the licenses or ownership of existing dataset
